Bio-inspire A/V Dome Performance IAIA | Institute of American Indian Arts in New Mexico, USA, 2015 Fiske Planetarium - University of Colorado Boulder in Colorado, USA, 2015 BioInspire is an A/V dome performance which has screened in the Institute of American Indian Arts(New Mexico, USA) and Fiske Planetarium - University of Colorado Boulder(Colorado, USA). Artificial neural networks(ANNs), a largely used method in machine learning and cognitive science, are inspired by the biological neural networks, namely the neural system of the animals. The ANNs are composed of several nodes, layers and connections which simulate to some extent the message exchange and processing through a biological neural network. In fact, ANNs tries to find an approximate functions that evaluate all the inputs in order to give a meaningful output concerning the data. Each function is specific to the learned data according to which the form of the ANN is shaped. So, ANN adapt itself to learn from the data, to mine it; it then turns into a generic processing model that evaluates, classify, categorize the inputs, likewise our brain, neurons and synapses. As the quantity of layers, nodes and connections in an artificial neural network increase, the structure gets more complex. Getting the inspiration from the structure of an ANN, our aim is to redefine the complexity of a neural network using abstract objects and sound referring to it's natural form. Waves symbolize the tempestuous emotions, whereas the hot air balloon represents the memories. Finally, the paint reflects time which passes and separates them from each other. It's a video with double exposure (filmed in Istanbul and Cappadokia), put on backgrounds with paint mixed in milk and dishwashing liquid. L’histoire d’un homme qui regrette ses choix passés. The song and title inspired me to create a narrative about the Y generation, about how people can become desperate about creating the perfect piece of work, the ultimate fulfillment in the eyes of others. The obsession of a promised, expected, fulfilling life. I like to think that this video is about how this generation has been told repeatedly by their parents how special of a person they are. I wanted to create a ridiculous, sadly desperate and manipulative character that would push this obsession to the limits, which is using death as an art performance in order to ultimately be respected in the eyes of others. With wave heights and periods that haven't been seen in quite a long time as well. The wave itself seemed to have weeded the crowd out pretty thin, separating the men from the boys. but if you watch this you'll see that many were also ready to stare this monster of A wave straight in the eye. Kai Lenny, Aaron Gold, Ian Walsh, Shane Dorian, & Albee Layer are just a few names that took on mother natures scariest and most beautiful marvel called Jaws. An animated short film, narrated by two asylum-seeking men detained in Australia's Manus Island Offshore Processing Centre, recounting the dangerous journeys that brought them to the island and their memories of the riot that erupted in 2014. ---------------------------------------- In July 2013, the Australian Government introduced a controversial immigration policy, transferring asylum seekers arriving by boat to remote offshore detention centres on foreign Pacific islands. Seven months later, the Manus Island centre erupted in violence when police and guards put down protests with sticks, machetes and guns, and 23 year-old asylum seeker Reza Barati was killed. We spoke to Behrouz and Omar, who are currently detained on Manus Island. An inspiration for this session was a conversation with my 3year old daughter while dressing up to go out: - Daddy, I don’t want to put this jacket on. - she moaned - Me too, darling but it is very cold outside. - I explained - How cold? and I had to figure out an interesting answer which would satisfy a preschooler’s curiosity, so I told her: - It is so cold that even soap bubbles freeze and it looks really beautiful, you know? I saw a sparkle in her eye so I promised to make a film to show her that. She was so excited about this idea that of course she forgot that she didn’t want to put her jacket on. It wasn’t easy to capture those bubbles because only around 5-10% of them didn’t break instantly and as you can imagine it was a challenge to be patient at -15 Celsius ;) but it was worth it because now that my daughter has seen it, winter is magic for her. geist.xyz is a different kind of fashion project: what looks at first glance as an eccentric tangle of simulated dance and a color coordinated tumblr exploration turns out to be a study of handcrafted algorithmic textiles and procedural surfaces. A synthetic ghost shifts simulated textiles from passive matter to live organisms. They behave like apparitions in an artificial choreography, with movements that are imaginary yet familiar. Like a constant metamorphosis, the same sequence gets transformed over and over again. At each step, all aspects of the designs are modified, from algorithmic pattern to color scheme to fabric behaviour. The results are meandering layers of style changes. A linear montage shows the intricate details in 4k resolution. Shuffled layers of metronomic sounds emphasize the transformation fluctuating in and out of sync.
