After traveling the world for many years and competing at the highest levels, Kurt returns home to B.C. to find peace and solace in the mountains. Really big jumps, a small cabin, and mountains as far as the eye can see are all Kurt really needs for his humble existence. This short Guggenheim-produced documentary covers the extensive research, dialogue, and complex conservation treatment that was carried out to conserve Eva Hesse’s Expanded Expansion, bringing it out of storage after nearly thirty-five years. Despite material changes, Expanded Expansion still holds tremendous power and is a testament to a pioneering artist who, despite her untimely death in 1970, left a body of work that pushed sculpture beyond Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism, and has deeply influenced the work of younger artists. Curated by Lena Stringari, Deputy Director and Andrew W. Mellon Chief Conservator, with the collaboration of Richard Armstrong, Director, and Esther Chao, Objects Conservator, Eva Hesse: Expanded Expansion is on view through October 17, 2022. 47 seconds of helplessness. And of pain. 47 seconds of uncertainty. And of desperation. 47 seconds of loneliness. And of losing hope. People, including babies and children, in Lebanese hospitals are dying and suffering because of the lack of electricity and power cuts for 47 years - including today. This short film symbolizes the Lebanese people's reality through the story of a father and a daughter over 47 seconds, written for and shot in one straight take. The daughter is a symbol for Lebanon - with her condition deteriorating progressively, with every electricity cut. The father is a symbol for the Lebanese people, screaming and pleading for help, with every electricity cut - but there is none. The environment's design transports viewers to a typical hospital in the most afflicted parts of Lebanon. The lights and the colours add to the bleakness of the reality being faced. The camera movement is slow and tedious - almost haunting. The lens feels like we are in the 70-80’s (Lebanon today) with vignetting. Rehoused vintage optics help the film stay close to an analog look. The lighting has mixtures of fluorescents, never clean white light, always filtered with a bit of grey and blue. This film is important to be seen and shared, because it's for a cause that's worth talking about and importantly, getting global support for. The Unfiltered History Tour allows users to take a tour of the museum thanks to Instagram filters and immersive audio. Users scan objects including the Rosetta Stone, Parthenon Marbles, and Benin Bronzes to unlock an augmented reality, which steps back in time to show the moment these items were removed. We collaborated with Dentsu webchutney and Vice world news to develop the overall augmented reality campaign on Instagram.
