Chemical Somnia

Chemical Somnia

Chemical Somnia is a cross-continental collaboration between filmmaker Scott Portingale and composer Gorkem Sen. The film transports the viewer into chemical dimensions, exploring phase transition, fluid dynamics, and chemical reactions. Timelapse and high speed photography were used on a macro scale to capture these elemental relationships in less than a square inch area on a petri dish. *Headphones are strongly recommended to fully appreciate the resonance of the one instrument soundtrack performed by Gorkem Sen, on an instrument he invented, the yaybahar. a film by SCOTT PORTINGALE music performed by GORKEM SEN on YAYBAHAR this project was made possible by funding from THE ALBERTA FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS

KLIMAX

KLIMAX

Klimax explores the topic of female masturbation in order to redefine the already negatively connoted image of the female sex and thus strives to create new aesthetic associations of femininity. Our main protagonist, Barbie, undergoes a process of transformation. Like Alice in Wonderland, she is immersed in a magical world, a place of allure and delight. It is a fantastic place that leads her to change little by little to free herself from her stiffness and oppression. Klimax is meant to show how unique and beautiful every woman's body is.

Finding Hetch Hetchy: The Hidden Yosemite

Finding Hetch Hetchy: The Hidden Yosemite

FINDING HETCH HETCHY: The Hidden Yosemite Yosemite Valley is well-known as the epicenter of American climbing. Its sister valley to the north has long been left in the shadows of Yosemite’s reputation. The Hetch Hetchy Valley, similarly home to towering granite walls and the majestic beauty for which the Sierra is known, stays well out of the limelight despite being part of Yosemite National Park as a result of San Francisco's controversial dam and reservoir that covers the valley floor. Timmy O’Neill had spent three decades scaling the monoliths in Yosemite Valley but, like so many climbers in the park, had never visited nearby Hetch Hetchy. As it follows Timmy and Lucho, Finding Hetch Hetchy shows breathtaking views of the canyon and the excellent opportunities for climbers while explaining the opportunity to relocate Hetch Hetchy’s namesake reservoir and restore the valley below to its natural beauty. Please support the campaign to restore Hetch Hetchy Valley. DERE∀LISATION

DERE∀LISATION

The psychological condition Derealisation is best described as a subjective episode relating specifically to a person's perception of the world around them. It often causes those suffering from the condition to regard their surroundings as unreal, distant and distorted or in some way falsified. It is theorised that Derealisation may affect everyone at least once in their lifetime, with a low percentage of the population possibly experiencing symptoms on a more serious and sustained level.  The idea for this piece came in the aftermath of the COVID19 pandemic which isolated and fundamentally changed so many people's lives forever. The constant cycle of negative news and the strict social distancing measures combined to create a dissociative, mass-malaise. This in turn left many feeling disconnected from their everyday lives and the people around them - including members of our own team here at Panoply. This film sets out to be a visual exploration of this phenomena. Credits Concept, Design & Direction Panoply Audio Human Robot Soul

WWF - A Flammable Planet

WWF - A Flammable Planet

A stop-motion story told through the use of real fire. Behind-the-scenes: https://ift.tt/npSjL5T We used the naturally destructive properties of fire to create a direct visual metaphor between our increasingly flammable planet and the animated environment. In the film, as in real life, a menacing fire consumes everything “causing destruction to natural habitats and people’s lives.” The film acts as a stark reminder that world leaders must act now to tackle the drivers of unnatural wildfires, such as deforestation and climate change. We used an innovative combination of a highly flammable set and props, and real fire, to create a shocking sense of visual jeopardy. The film was shot entirely in-camera and used traditional stop-motion techniques together with slow-motion, timelapse, and long-exposure to create the original visuals. Directed by NOMINT co-founders Yannis Konstantinidis and Christos Lefakis in collaboration with animator Jua Braga, music by Ted Regklis, and colour grading by Tom Mangham at Black Kite Studios. LOGLINE A sudden meeting of a Man and a Woman begins a hypnotic act – a game of pleasure and discomfort. SYNOPSIS A Man and a Woman meet in a waiting room and immediately get closer to each other. They commence a game that gradually gets more and more ferocious. Their faces resemble masks while shapes slowly lose their integrity. Bodies are formed like clay, embracing each other until the limits of impossibility. „III” is a portrait of a woman in an exhausting relationship with a man, which allures and repulses at the same time. The film is the third part of the triptych “Impossible Figures and other stories”. Food for the Journey

Food for the Journey

After immigrating to San Francisco from Central Mexico as a child, Martha spent most weekends outside with her family. Once she fell in love with backpacking, Martha realized one core piece had been missing - comfort food she could relate to. Itacate Foods was created to not only offer Latin backpacking food but as a way for folks to see a part of themselves and their travels represented on the menu. This film is created in partnership with REI Co-op's Path Ahead Ventures.
