For Those I love - Birthday

For Those I love - Birthday

Directed by Sam Davis DadBod FIlms Journey through a fractured landscape of memories in Sam Davis’ 3D odyssey for ‘For Those I Love’ From Sam: Created using a Photogrammetry, tens of thousands of photos were stitched together using AI to produce giant 3D models. We were then able to fly a camera seamlessly through this digital world mimicking the movement of thought. These scenes, inspired by long chats with Dave from the band, and from the lyrics themselves, touch on the past, loss, freedom and addiction. Something we all face at some point. I have wanted to explore photogrammetry for a couple of years with the idea of creating a giant world from it. Hearing of how this track was put together, through the use of old recordings, WhatsApp messages and samples, it made a lot sense to create a video in a similar way - taking 10s of thousands of images in order to create one solid piece. The use of photogrammetry seemed to pair up with visualising memories, as you often only remember the core of the memory - the person you were talking to, the item you were holding etc. Photogrammetry works in a similar way. The person or object that appears most in the collection of images is generated with the most accuracy, leaving everything else to distort.

Shaun Leonardo: The Freedom to Move | Art21 "New York Close Up"

Shaun Leonardo: The Freedom to Move | Art21 "New York Close Up"

How can splintered stereotypes become mechanisms for portraying a fuller self? Summoning experiences from his formative years, performance and socially-engaged artist Shaun Leonardo embarks on bold explorations of the ways that art has allowed him to expose and distort societal perceptions of Brown and Black people, and, in the process, make sense of his identity. Born to Latin American immigrants in Queens, New York, and recruited to play football at a private New England college, Leonardo recounts a seminal moment on the playing field: a beloved coach provokes him to play as if he was "just let out of Rikers." For Leonardo, the incident revealed the hypervisible and dehumanizing ways that Black and Brown bodies are perceived, setting him on a path to seek ways that he might exist more fully and freely in his body. Leonardo recounts early performances of "El Conquistador vs The Invisible Man" (2006) and "Bull in the Ring" (2008), which drew upon his experiences as a former athlete. In each, Leonardo puts himself through physically exhausting processes, reflecting violence and hypermasculinity back to the audience. In more recent works, such as "Primitive Games" (2018) and "Mirror/Echo/Tilt" (2019), he engages participants in movement workshops and nonverbal storytelling exercises as a way of understanding their own experiences. Spurred by the police killings of young Black men, Leonardo reflects on the community of his youth and asks, "Why me? Why was I the one that was able to make it out?" This questioning led Leonardo to more direct action with Assembly, an arts diversion program for court-involved youth that he co-founded with the non-profit organization Recess in 2017. Since that time, Leonardo has grappled with the philosophical crisis of operating within a criminal justice system, but remains committed to directly engaging with and caring for the participants. "Being able to exist in your own body and understand that you do not need to be defined by an experience—arrest and incarceration—allows you to move forward with a little more sense of joy," says the artist. "To get anyone to start imagining possibilities for themselves again, that is what we all should be after." Shaun Leonardo (b. 1979, Queens, New York, USA) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Out North

Out North

According to a 2018 Brookings Institute study, North Nashville’s 37208 zip code had the highest incarceration rate in the US (14%, or one in every three young men.) To outsiders, this is a stat that defines the neighborhood. But to residents of North Nashville, it’s a rallying cry to serve its people, invest in its youth, and safeguard the culture from being yet another victim of gentrification. Told through the eyes of several key activists in the community, “Out North” shines a light on the hopeful story of 37208. It is a story of opportunity and reinvestment into an otherwise underserved community. It is a story rooted in civil rights, overcoming disaster, the legacies of institutionalized racism, and committing to creating a more resilient culture in the face of a changing city. this video is a live screen capture of a Processing sketch, without any cuts and montage. Every play, the project generates a different 60fps video with random perspectives and randomly moving elements (based on midi notes and sound), but with pre-scheduled scenes setups. ----------------------------------------- a track taken from the debut wh0wh0 album (LP / CD / Digital) pre-order LP / CD / Digital on Bandcamp: http://bit.ly/wh0wh0 stream: https://ffm.to/bamb00 ----------------------------------------- wh0wh0 is a solo moniker of the drummer Jacek Prościński. It’s his unique experiment aimed at taking on the intensity and precision of electronic music. To face it live, he uses a self-made electro-acoustic drum kit. It is the fulfilment of a deeply rooted dream to create and perform independently as a solo drummer. Channelling the musician’s curiosity and testing his ability. Exceeding limitations imposed by traditional drumming. Exploring the possibilities of both the instrument and the artist. Jacek Prościński has been an active musician for years – co-creating LLovage together with Olo Walicki, Mu with Tymon Tymański as well as the LASY and Hałvva duos. He plays in Tobiasz Biliński’s band Perfect Son and was a member of the now-defunct delay_ok. Most importantly, since 2019 he has been intensively developing his solo project wh0wh0, perfecting his individual drumming style. The record features 8 tracks, all being the result of meticulous exploration and experimentation that show off a wide spectrum of music, not only electronic. The tunes may remind you of creations of different artists – at one moment they sound euphoric like Hudson Mohawke or TNGHT, only to surprise you with calm repetitive passages a bit later, bringing to mind the works of Steve Reich. Influences range from footwork, trap, hip-hop, through techno, ambient and math rock, to electronic deconstruction and avant-garde. This album contains a broad range of structures – from abstract to almost song-like. ----------------------------------------- Written and performed by Jacek Prościński Recorded, mixed and produced by Marcin Szulc Co-produced by Jacek Prościński Additional mix by Wojtek Perczyński Mastered at Gagarin Studio by Wojtek Perczyński Executive production by Tomek Hoax © 2021 Coastline Northern Cuts ----------------------------------------- www.northerncuts.com www.facebook.com/CNCuts https://ift.tt/3abMvIW www.facebook.com/wh0wh0 www.instagram.com/wh0wh00

Surfer Kipp Caddy has spent the last 10 years chasing a dream. Early in 2020, right before the world went a little crazy, Kipp caught what some of the local guys are calling "One of, if not the craziest wave ever made at Shipsterns Bluff." Cinematographer Chris Bryan was in the perfect position to capture the moment at 1,000 frames per second. A wave of a life time and the spectacular results are now being shown for the first time. SWATTED

SWATTED

SWATTED directed by Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis Production: Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains 150+ Festivals Selection 30+ Awards Special Jury Award Labo competition, Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, Semi-finalist Oscars students 2020 Complete list: https://ift.tt/3pejIZt Synopsis: Online players describe their struggles with swatting, a life-threatening cyber-harassment phenomenon that looms over them whenever they play. The events take shape through youtube videos and wireframe images from a video game. Press: "What really distinguishes Swatted is Chandoutis' flair for composing and editing sound and image: the suspense and urgency of the swatting incidents alternate with atmospheric night-time digital images, including the one with which he strikingly concludes". Modern Times Review Bio : Born in France in 1988, Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis lives and works between Paris and Brussels. After studying at INSAS, the Sint-Lukas Higher School of Art and Le Fresnoy - National Studio of Contemporary Art, Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis has developed a "cinématière", a hybrid artistic practice that expands cinema to the field of contemporary art. His work questions technologies, memory, the virtual and explores the porous worlds of the image. His films have been selected and awarded in numerous international festivals (Cannes, Annecy, Clermont-Ferrand, BFI London, IDFA...). His latest film Maalbeek, selected at the Semaine de la critique - Cannes, is candidate for the European Film Awards 2021.

Ill Considered - THE STROKE

Ill Considered - THE STROKE

Watch the 'making of' film: https://ift.tt/2YPiLLg Order THE STROKE vinyl + hand drawn frames: http://www.bit.ly/34yX59L A Film by Vincent de Boer The Stroke is a hand-drawn animation film that reverses the roles of audio and visuals for a music video. Improvised on its very first viewing, the music for The Stroke was the immediate response of the musicians to the artistic and emotional visual journey. The drawings of the film are used for the 10th vinyl release of Ill Considered. All 338 records come with 12 unique drawings: one second of the film. All 4056 drawings of the animation film are divided between 338 LP boxes. One of the 12 drawings serves as the cover; the remaining drawings can be seen in a bundle. This way, 338 people share an artwork that took Vincent and his collaborative partner Hans Schuttenbeld nearly 1,5 years of preparation and 9 months of drawing, including many long days and nights spent in Vincent's isolated studio in the forest. The Stroke sprang from the urge for a creative exchange of artistic energies. Vincent has created all Ill Considered album covers in response to the music and when he changed the order of the process, new challenges and possibilities arose. The Stroke tells the story of a brush stroke: a trace of a movement performed by the artist with his instrument, the paint brush. As the only non-musician member of Ill Considered, Vincent invites both the viewer and the musicians into a realm of strokes while exploring whether an album cover can transform into a music video. This has led to a multi-sensory artwork that connects the musician with the audience and the artist. "It was almost a relief to finally see the animation Vincent had been working on for so long. We’d had a lot of anticipation for this day and you can hear the release of tension in all the takes. It was great to be able to try a few different approaches and they all seemed to work well with the visuals as Vincent is so attuned to what we do. Definitely a memorable experience." In addition to the first take of the recording session, two extra improvised takes are included on the record; both very different and reacting to the film in unexpected ways. It is possible to view the film to all takes: simply play the record and the (muted) video at the same time. a film by CINZA SYNOPSIS A rainy day in Pyongyang, North Korea. KOREA is part III of a project that explores areas marked by conflicts looking for a personal and contemplative look at its landscapes and people.(part I and II were featured on Nowness and Vimeo Staff Picks). Having the ultra-secretive North Korea as a subject imposed many obstacles whilst capturing the images due to restricted movements and constant supervision. Through these images and sounds, we look to evoke and shed light at the tense atmosphere of a country that looks displaced in time and space. Hiplet: Because We Can

Hiplet: Because We Can

Hiplet: Because We Can, a SXSW 2020 Official Selection was created with the intention to inspire young Black women. This film brings the Chicago based Hiplet [hip-lay] Ballerinas centerstage. Hiplet™ fuses classical pointe technique with hip-hop and urban dance styles. Hiplet™ has blossomed immensely since it's creation by Artistic Director Homer Hans Bryant in the early 90s. With elements of a Short Film, Music Video and Documentary, this artistic work not only showcases the talent of the Hiplet Ballerinas, it also gives them a platform to discuss the challenges they have faced with giving traditional ballet a hip new twist. Director - Addison Wright Bio Addison Wright is a filmmaker and creative from the South Side of Chicago. He’s collaborated with several Chicago musicians, creating stunning visuals for their music videos. “Hiplet: Because We Can” is his first film that is an Official Selection of SXSW 2020. And Then the Bear

And Then the Bear

A film by Agnès Patron Produced by Sacrebleu Productions SYNOPSIS : That very night, houses will burn. Men and women will tremble. Hordes of children will come together and howl as they dance alone on the ashes like wild bears. It only takes one cry to awaken them all from their slumber! ABOUT THE DIRECTOR : Following her studies in animation at the Ecole Superior des Arts Décoratifs, where she directed her first two painted animated shorts LA VALSE DU PENDU et LA VEUVE CAILLOU (official selection in Clermont Ferrand, Dresden, Stuttgardt, Animafest et Annecy), Agnès Patron worked in the animate teaser of Florence Mialhe feature film LA TRAVERSÉE as well as the animated sequences in Nadine Buss documentary D’ORIGINE ALLEMANDE. She then co-directed CHULYEN HISTOIRE DE CORBEAU with Cerise Lopez, a short film awarded in numerous festivals in France and abroad (Grand Prix Animatou, Grand Prix at the National Animation Film Festival, Special Price from de Jury Hiroshima…). For her most recent film, L’HEURE DE L’OURS, she worked at Ciclic alongside some talents from the animation team that helped on her previous project CHULYEN.
