ENSŌ

ENSŌ

At some point there seems to be a defining moment in life where you learn to let go. Sometimes, not by choice. And often times it comes to us as the illusion of defeat, while in reality, it was the very thing we needed to guide us to where we had to go. About a year ago, Aaron and I came across the Buddhist word, Ensō. This single word, described everything that we had been talking about for the last year or so. By definition, it represents and suggests cutting the desire for perfection and allowing the universe to be just as it is. Understanding that perfection doesn’t exist allows you to move through life gracefully free of any pressure. It opens the door to allow situations to unfold naturally, and to invite intuition and creativity to move through. For Aaron, riding is a great place to practice this concept. It’s a place that he can go where the universe can reveal these sort of secrets. In this film, we ride along with Aaron as he takes a journey into the idea letting go and simply just being. Eternal Spring

Eternal Spring

Ice is a beautiful element I love to work with in my video projects. I wanted to feature the ice melting aspect in timelapse process to illustrate the phenomen of global warming. Melting ice is beautiful and symbolize spring, but it can also symbolize problematic aspect of our climate. To play with ice I used my special gear of macro photography, the famous Edelkrone ecosystem slider, my fantastic Laowa probe 24mm lens and the beautiful Nikkor 105mm macro lens. For this kind of project, the Nikon Z6 is perfect as the sensor is really sensible and efficient in dark area. Music: White Knight by Ryan Taubert https://ift.tt/FYEJjDN Musicbed Licensed

GAUCHO (el buen amigo)

GAUCHO (el buen amigo)

A tribute to the Gauchos. Last October I was working on a documentary in Patagonia. We came back with a lot of incredible things. I decided to edit the best of it. It was important for me to do this project, to thank and highlight them in a way. With this project, I wanted to make a portrait of the gauchos, based on how they consider themself. Gauchos are seen like modern living cow boys, but it's more subtle than this, as Pajarito explained to us. The 3:2 ratio was important to me. I wanted to get the idea of a "square" picture, like a still photography. I tried to show the feeling of freedom I had with them. Time and spaces are totally different over there. At some moments, I was having a break during shooting and realizing how lucky I was. I felt like I was happy to witness these moments. This work has been made possible thanks to Pronto Prod with whom I was shooting a documentary on remote locations in the world. I would like to especially thank the director Philippe Mac Gaw who gave me the opportunity to make this edit and to turn it into a personal project. Again for the music, I worked with my buddy AIR GOAT who describes his compositions in his own terms:" I wanted to this song to sound soft and delicate to resonate with the poetry of these men's lives, but also strong and brutal to embody the rawness of the nature around them. After listening to music from the Andes it felt natural to use the guitar as a primary instrument, and I also choose to do as many things as I could with the guitar only : the percussions at 1:04 are actually made by hitting the soundboard of the guitar. I added elements from different string instruments such as ukulele, portuguese guitar and cellos to complete the song. In the end I am very proud of this composition and I think it really blends well with the beauty of nature and the wild lifestyle of the Gauchos". This project can exist thanks to Pronto Prod, a production company specialized in documentaries. https://ift.tt/uVpfkvA A huge thanks to all the Gauchos and the Estancia Cerro Guido. I'm Usually Pretty Good At Naming Things

I'm Usually Pretty Good At Naming Things

Joe Strummer of The Clash said it best: “All we’re doing is trying to communicate something. Sometimes we know don't know what it is, sometimes we do." In the summer of 2021, I decided that I had spent long enough making art with pre- ordained meaning. I wanted to see what art-making was like free from that obligation. I wanted to see what would happen if I let the process speak back to me. So I culled through my extensive arsenal of the stuff I make collage and sculpture with, and made a stack of paper about a foot tall. With this as my raw material, I cast aside the idea of outward expression with a specific agenda, and embraced inward exploration with unassigned curiosity. Subsequently, each collage became its own independent narrative. I was speaking in an intuitive language that perhaps I didn’t have total agency over. It was scary, and it was freeing. I knew that even if I didn’t fully understand what I was making, there would be two people who would: my kids. To be clear, I don’t mean ‘understand’ in the way one processes a distinct language: I’m not a semaphore; they are not at sea. What I mean is that these pieces might just have a poetic resonance with the two people who know me better than I know myself. Maybe by admitting that I don’t have all the answers—not by a long shot— in a communication authored for the people who ostensibly look to me for answers, I can become as cool as Joe Strummer. At least to my kids. filmed by Mac Premo & Srdjan Stojiljkovic Edited by Mac Premo Sound Design by Owen McLean Thank you Adrianna Dufay Conor Peterson Oliver Jeffers Joe Strummer Yng-Ru Chen Mike Blabac Thank you forever and ever Atticus & Frieda
