La Jeunesse Éternelle de Jules Lepecheux

La Jeunesse Éternelle de Jules Lepecheux

We’ve crossed paths with Jules Lepecheux a fair few times as of late. In the surf in Biarritz, at underground concerts around Hossegor, the Duct Tape Festivals back in the days we were allowed to travel… and before even properly meeting him, we’ve been digging his approach from the get go. In a European surf scene that’s arguably more sterile than ever, he’s one of the few individuals bringing a bit of originality. At only 18 years old, he rides longboards beautifully and slides on the shorter crafts with equal steeze. Aside from studying philosophy, Monsieur Lepecheux is into French Nouvelle Vague films—namely the ones from Mr. Jean Luc Godard. He also plays in arguably Biarritz’s most conceptual band at present, the infamous Werewolf Colours Orchestra. And most importantly, he does it all without paying too much attention to what haters might say. And we like that, we like that a lot. Staying true to Jules' unique style and aesthetic, and paying homage to the traditions and vibe of Biarritz from the Belle Époque to the birthplace of surfing in France, nay Europe in the 50’s and 60’s, Wasted Talent is proud to present 'La Jeunesse Éternelle de Jules Lepecheux'. Call it a visual poem of sorts. An ode to summer days in the French Basque Country. The eternal youth of Jules Lepecheux. Streets of Lagos

Streets of Lagos

Shot on location in West Africa, 'Streets of Lagos' provides a rare insight into the lives of Nigeria’s first generation of rollerbladers. What was once a niche sport that saw widespread participation across the globe in the late 90’s has emerged in 2020 as a fringe subculture in the streets of Lagos. Originally used as a way to navigate the city’s dense traffic, today, a select few use their skates as a form of self-expression, something which can be hard to find in one of the toughest cities in the world. The story is told through the eyes of Daniel Ogbogu, Lagos’ strongest up-and-coming street skater, who gives insight into the struggles of daily life in Nigeria and the strength that skating gives him. He is joined by travelling professional athlete, Brian Freeman, who seeks to nurture the sense of community he sees in these talented youths and to help them find sense in the chaotic world in which they live. --- A Film by | Dom West Starring | Daniel Ogbogu & Brian Freeman Soundtrack | Rob Law & Music Bed Shot on location | Lagos, Nigeria Run time | 12 Minutes https://ift.tt/35MA70c --- Special thanks to: The Ogbogu Family Shinobi Blade Clan Caleb Smith --- Proudly supported by: BFree Blading www.bfreeblading.org Vibralux Skate Goods https://ift.tt/35SaD1o THEM Skates www.themskates.com Locoskates www.locoskates.com Flying Eagle https://ift.tt/1s5MrB3 Barbary Coast SF www.barbarycoastsf.com Decathlon www.decathlon.com Eulogy Wheels www.eulogywheels.com Intuition Skateshop www.intuitionskate.com Bayside Blades https://ift.tt/3mBnB9G Skater HQ www.skaterhq.com.au Hedonskate www.hedonskate.com Oysi www.oysius.com ---

J GRANT BRITTAIN: 2020

In the world of skate photography, J Grant Brittain is eminent, a true living legend. He's been shooting skateboarding for 40 years, capturing as well as shaping its history, and thusly, worldwide popular culture. But to hear it from the man himself, it was all pretty chill. I sat down with Grant and talked about process, practice, art and fame. And also golf. Here's our talk in the form of 20 questions, each answer in 20 seconds or less.

FOALS Like Lightning

FOALS Like Lightning

Artist Foals Track : Like Lightning Record Label Warner Records Director Virginie Kypriotis https://ift.tt/2Bq3VAW Executive Producer Rebecca Rice Design Studio CODE https://ift.tt/2OLAOwB Animation Un Oeil Surtout https://ift.tt/34wY605 with thanks to Mathematic.tv sound design https://ift.tt/2sbWF8L The idea for the film came from that famous moment in Forrest Gump when he starts running and inspires a movement of followers. After seeing the world’s greed, malice and ignorance about environmental issues it sparks anger into an involuntary hero who simply decides to run away. This action makes him, a sort of, contemporary messiah with whom people turn to and begin changing their ways. Though the film is about the environment, we wanted to create a new kind of message about it. Rather than just being doom and gloom pessimistic, or even too sentimental, the idea was to use our anger to create something funny and hopeful to celebrate the people actually doing something about it.

Frasier the Sensuous Lion

Frasier the Sensuous Lion

LION. KING. How a 19 year old lion fathered 35 cubs… in a year and a half. This is the wild story of a lion named Frasier—Frasier the Sensuous Lion—who became a science wonder the world over in 1972. After all, how many lions have movies and songs made about them because of never before seen animal behavior? You see, Frasier defied what was previously known about lion breeding habits—any animal’s really. Did you say 35 cubs? In just 18 months? And, wait, how old? Also, in this video: learn a math equation about how just one lion can take over Los Angeles and find out how zoos manage breeding programs today with their menagerie of creatures great and small. * * * ABOUT WILD LIVES Popular Science’s WILD LIVES is a monthly series that dives like an Emperor penguin into some of the wildest stories and weirdest facts about, of course, wild animals (sometimes botanical wonders, too!). In their own words. Well, approximately their own words—they are wild animals after all. UMBRA (TARIKI)

UMBRA (TARIKI)

UMBRA is a short film about limitations and the charm of freeness. The idea of an unknown world of absolute freeness and the darkness that lives within lures you towards itself. The twist in this film is accepting the temptation of entering a world by a woman. She knows that this world may not even be pleasant, but it’s new, and that makes it exciting for her. What triggers the woman to gives in to the temptation is her sexual desires. Therefore, UMBRA is about breaking boundaries and untangling yourself from the fear of being free. This film takes place in midnight of Tehran which in reality is a place where women won’t enter and it’s a complete new world of freeness compared.

MR SOMEBODY

MR SOMEBODY

DOCUMENTARY / 14 MINS. / USA A former Crip gang member searches for peace after 14 years behind bars. ••• This Tribeca 2020 short documentary tells the story of Bam, a former Crip gang member from South Central, Los Angeles. Having spent most of his early years in and out of prison, Bam is now entering middle age, picking up the pieces of his life and reassessing what has come of his dreams.  Opening a window into a Black community in Watts, Los Angeles, MR SOMEBODY shows a side of America fraught with pain, privation, and the challenges of violence and mass incarceration. For those growing up in Watts there are few narrative alternatives to the well-worn paths of generational gang culture, broken families, and institutional discrimination. In the Imperial Courts housing projects—and greater South Central—MR SOMEBODY is a story that many in the community can relate to. The film serves as a testament to the youth of America’s inner-cities, and a reminder to those living under more prosperous circumstances that America still has a long way to go to make good on her promises. Directed by Brian Wertheim, the film was shot over the course of two years in Los Angeles, CA.
