THE MISADVENTURES OF KIDSUPER

THE MISADVENTURES OF KIDSUPER

KidSuper AW22 “The MisAdventures of KidSuper” Paris Fashion Week I often get told: “You need a TV Show.” Most of the time it is for a reality show, but I wanted to take a stab at trying to make my own show. Inspired by my own experience and the KidSuper AW22 collection I am proud to present the MisAdventures of KidSuper!!! This was a such a crazy undertaking from trying to produce a whole collection, write a script, cast a group of friends, and bring this vision to life. This was an unrealistic deadline to start with and many people told me we should wait. But you only learn and grow from taking the leap, I have never done a film project where I have learned more. I now know exactly what I want for this series.  I can’t thank enough for all those involved. What a fucking cast of characters!!!! As many of you know KidSuper has always lived in its own universe. I wanted to capture the hustle and bustle of starting you own brand as a TV Show. Hopefully this leads to a tv show!!!! The Black Cop: a villain, a victim and a hero - documentary

The Black Cop: a villain, a victim and a hero - documentary

This intimate portrait of Gamal 'G' Turawa, an ex-Metropolitan police officer, explores his memories of racially profiling and harassing black people and homophobia in his early career. Now an openly gay man, Turawa’s story is a multi-layered one and sits in the centre of three pivotal moments in recent British history, from the black communities’ resistance of oppressive policing, to the push for LGBTQIA equality and the aftermath of the west African 'farming' phenomenon, where white families took care of black children outside the remit of local authorities. The Black Cop is BAFTA longlisted for British Short Film 2022. Warning - viewers may find the content of this film distressing. Honoring The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Honoring The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Directed by Coffey Directing a piece about the man who changed the course of American history was a dream come true for me. Dr. King has been a huge figure in many of our lives, and growing up he was the only person in my household that wasn’t related to me whose picture was hanging in my family’s living room. I was always interested in who he was, and I soon learned why his picture frame was bigger. When I asked my grandmother aka “Mama Dot,” she responded with, “He’s the man who cared enough about us to fight for our freedom by putting his life on the line for equality.” And the rest was history. The experiences I have had during my lifetime are the direct result of his work six decades ago, and when Wavelength asked me to Direct this piece, I had to come correct with the right subjects to help me say "Thank You." Through this film we hope to amplify who He was and is, because his impact is multi-generational, and his word and work lives on today. - Coffey After viewing, drop a comment with your thoughts.

Inuuteq Storch: Who We Are

Inuuteq Storch: Who We Are

Meet a young photographer, Inuuteq Storch, who works with found images telling Greenland history from the Greenlandic perspective. “A lot of the documents and photos we are used to seeing are by people who came to Greenland, not by Greenlanders themselves,” he says. Inuuteq Storch encountered a series of films with a friend while working in a dumpster; he then figured out that ‘found images’ could be a project for him. For Inuuteq Storch found images and archive projects have developed into a project where he wants to tell Greenland history from the Greenlandic perspective, “because many of the documents and photos we have are by people who came to Greenland.” “It is like physics; the practical and the theoretical results are usually different.” “A lot of my work is about me trying to understand how the traditional life in Greenland was.” His series, called ‘Porcelain Souls,’ is made of photos by Storch’s parents when they were young. “They are often portraying fragile and vulnerable people at the same time when the Greenland history and way of living was also disappearing,” Storch says, adding: “I had the idea that everything would fall apart and disappear. “ According to Inuuteq Storch, the John Møller project – called ‘Mirrored’ (2021) ¬ ¬– is one of his most exciting projects. Møller’s photos are taken between 1889 and 1935 – a time Storch knew little about, and he finds it strange why Møller is not a well-known photographer in Greenland because he was “the perfect photographer.” Many of the photos from that time are taken by people who came to Greenland, not by the Greenlanders themselves, which we see in John Møller’s work. “Greenlandic people are quite artistic; even though there was no word for art, we do not have that concept in our society.” Storch feels that the Greenlandic people are very creative when they make kayaks and clothing which is homemade and this creativity he wants to transfer into photography. “Even though photography is a very western idea, I think we can adapt to that, as well,” he concludes. “It is a funny thing to say that I am a young artist because I have never been this old before. Yet, my work is quite young, but I have been taking photos for a long time; I started in 2007. I already have 15-16 projects I need to make books out of.” “Greenland and Denmark have lived together for 300 years, and Denmark has colonized Greenland. Through darkness and brightness, we have lived together. The Danish people are the doors for Greenlandic people to understand the western concept, and we are the doors for Danish people to understand the spirits, and if we could merge those, it would be very good for us,” Storch concludes. Inuuteq Storch is a photographer born in 1989 in Sisimiut, Greenland. Storch is educated from the Fatamorgana Photo School in Copenhagen and the International Center of Photography in New York. He has published three books: ‘Porcelain Souls’ (2018) containing photos made by his parents, ‘Flesh’ (2019) featuring works from New York, and finally ‘Mirrored’ (2021) works with found images by John Møller, the first Greenland photographer. The latter learned how to photograph in Copenhagen and started taking portraits in Greenland in 1889 and worked until he died in 1935. Inuuteq Storch has exhibited his work in various countries, including Greenland, Alaska, New Zealand, Denmark, Iceland, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. Storch is currently working on creating a foundation for Greenlandic photography and culture. He lives between Sisimiut and Copenhagen. Solace by Tom Gibbons | On Running Documentary

Karel Sabbe spent his childhood summers hiking in the wilderness. An avid explorer of natural environments, he set his mind to setting the fastest known times on the world's most brutal and beautiful trails. From the Pacific Crest to the Appalachian Trail, he's done that. In the summer of 2021, Karel Sabbe ran the Via Alpina in just 30 days, the actual Fastest Known Time. Averaging two marathons on a daily basis, he navigated the route 14 days faster than anybody else. As well as the Alps, Karel overcame sleep deprivation, illness and extreme weather. And he did it all with a camera crew in tow, documenting every step. In this new documentary, Solace, we joined him on what might be his most beautifully brutal adventure yet. Get an unprecedented look at what it takes to achieve a Fastest Known Time. This is the story of Karel's Via Alpina FKT. Learning to Drown | The North Face

Learning to Drown | The North Face

Learning to Drown follows the life and career of professional snowboarder Jess Kimura as she unapologetically shatters stereotypes with her own brand of unwavering determination and go-for-broke mentality. After the tragic death of Jess's partner at the height of her career, she spiraled into a cycle of self destruction, grief and despair. Compounded by head injuries and mental health issues, the circumstances seemed insurmountable. Jess's only way out was within — as she faces her deepest fears, she reminds us that not all wounds are meant to heal. "Jess Kimura is not afraid of falling. This beautiful film showcases her long journey of persistence and determination as she takes on one challenge after the other to become one of the most influential snowboarders of her time. Jess openly shares her deepest fear and suffering and reminds us of the importance of being our best selves, in this inspiring lifetime story of a hero." — Bachar Khattar, jury member of Banff Film Festival Presented by: THE NORTH FACE / Production Company: Felt Soul Media / Director: Ben Knight / Producer: Travis Rummel / CO Producers: Robert Wassmer, Kaki Orr and Aimee Tetreault / Editor: Ben Knight / Original score: Trevor Doherty / Additional music: DL Incognito, Tourist and Odesza. Farewell / Slovo

Farewell / Slovo

a puppet stop-motion animated film directed by Leon Vidmar | 2016 | 5'51'' | Slovenia Lovro is tired and sad. He fills the bathtub with water, looking at droplets dripping from the tap. As one hits the water surface, Lovro is reminded of the day he first went fishing with his grandpa. His thoughts take him to the fish pond, and the bathroom sounds and objects bring back memories of that day: putting a black worm on the hook, getting tangled in his grandpa's line, driving to the pond in a beaten old car, catching a fish for the first time and seeing it die. Memory and reality merge into one. --- Best Animation Film @Lebanon International Short Film Festival (Lebanon) Maribor Audience Grand Prix @StopTrik International Film Festival (Slovenia) Special Jury Mention (Hassan Muthalib, Malaysia) @CRAFT - International Animation Festival (Indonesia) Winner of International Animated Short Film Competition @Chilemonos (Chile) IRIS Award 2016 for best cinematography of animated film (Miloš Srdić) @Slovene Association of Cinematographers (Slovenia) PrimaSound Award @Primanima World Festival of First Animations (Hungary) vesna for best animationa @Festival of Slovenian Film (Slovenia) --- Director: Leon Vidmar Screenwriter: Jerneja Kaja Balog Art director: Leon Vidmar Lead animator: Leon Vidmar Animator: Jaka Kramberger Music composer: Tomaž Grom Supervising sound editor: Julij Zornik Director of photography: Miloš Srdić Producer: Kolja Saksida Production company: ZVVIKS Co-production: NuFrame, Zavod OINK With the support of: Slovenian Film Centre, a public agency of the Republic of Slovenia, Film Studio Viba Film Ljubljana https://ift.tt/3mYxmkj

Letter to a Cycad

'Letter to a Cycad' is a visual homage to the historic Palmhouse in Copenhagen, and a reflection on the evolution of plants and our human impact on the planet. Using a fictional voice of the late botanist Frederik Liebmann (1813-1856) who found and described the cycad species Dioon edule, the oldest specimen in the Palmhouse, the film explores life histories and the current biodiversity crisis. The Chimney Swift (Der Schornsteinsegler)

The Chimney Swift (Der Schornsteinsegler)

Animated Documentary, directed by Frédéric Schuld Qualified for the Oscars 2022 The famous New Year's good luck symbol of a little chimney sweeper is turned upside down: In "The Chimney Swift" a real British sweeper master describes his everyday routine of forcing young kids to become workers. Eileen Arandiga, Hot Docs Toronto International Documentary Festival, 2020: Based on a meticulously detailed letter, the hard-knock lives of young 19th century chimney sweeps are uncovered in this animation, which masterfully articulates the finer points of preparing children as young as four for a life of hard labor up the flues of the bourgeoisie. Director statement by Frédéric Schuld: The idea for the film is based on an early childhood memory of a bird falling down my grandparent’s fireplace. It is one of those vague memories that stays. After researching the systematical abuse of the 19th century children chimney sweepers, I connected the dots. Like in my previous film “Carlotta’s Face” I use hand drawn 2D animation with a personal style to be able to create a unique access to a multi-layered story of fate through metaphoric images.
