The film language, the sound design and the acting are liberating. – Christin Berg, head of programming Nordisk Film Kino An exciting movie: Challenging, atmospheric, thought provoking, uncomfortable and surprising. And the actors play very well. – Svend Jensen, head of Arthaus BERGEN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2017 Best Norwegian Short Film: NO MAN IS AN ISLAND Statement: The winner is a brave and ambitious film that doesn’t shy away from big existential and political questions. Made in different modes, sometimes in a manner that can even be pretentious, it manages to land its many ideas elegantly, winning the audience with an authentic, humorous and spontaneous approach. A surprisingly fresh film about friendship, belonging and prejudice, and an impressively confident start for its filmmaker. Jury BIFF: Aleksander Huser, Einar Aarvig, Henning Rosenlund MINIMALEN 2018 Best Norwegian Short Film: NO MAN IS AN ISLAND Statement: The jury was impressed with the visually beautiful scenes, the sound design, acting and poetry in this film. This poetry is juxtaposed with an encounter with the rough reality of racism hidden behind a message of tolerance which makes the glass ceiling even more hurtful for the protagonists of the film.
